Summary
Version 3.1.0 improves EKS assessment reporting and Karpenter AMI handling. It also raises the module's declared Terraform minimum version to 1.8.
Changes
- Updated assessment checks for pod reads, capacity-type operators, teardown drain blockers, clean-cluster detection, Kyverno workload reads, selector matching, survivor counts, and on-demand pools without AMI-replacement protection.
- Updated Karpenter image compatibility, AMI lookup behavior, AMI owners, and the AMI-family requirement when an AMI ID is used.
- Kept the on-demand pool on the managed node group's AMI.
- Declared Terraform 1.8 as the module minimum version.
Breaking changes
- The module now requires Terraform 1.8 or later. Terraform versions below 1.8 cannot satisfy the module's declared requirement.
Upgrade impact
Update the Terraform CLI to version 1.8 or later before upgrading. Review the Terraform plan, particularly where Karpenter uses custom AMI settings, capacity types, or on-demand pools.
Verification
Run terraform init -upgrade after updating the Terraform CLI, then review the Terraform plan. Validate Karpenter AMI selection, node pools, and the updated assessment output in a controlled environment before applying the change through normal deployment controls.
